A new passenger pier is under construction at Plantation Wharf on the south bank of the Thames
between Battersea and Wandsworth bridges. The pier is being installed
by MSO Marine and is due to open
in April 2015. Once completed it will host calls from MBNA Thames Clippers’ services running between Blackfriars in the City and Putney.

Plantation Wharf Pier developer,
Chris Atherton explained:

“Adding a passenger pier to this
great riverside location is fantastic.
It gives residents and workers here alike another option for getting into town. And what better way to go than by boat? We’re really excited to see the development completed and the first Clipper call in the New Year.”

The Plantation Wharf Pier development is part of a range of work contributing to the Mayor’s River Action Plan which is aiming to see 12 million passenger trips on the Thames by 2020, double the number in the Olympic year, 2012.

London River Services is co-ordinating much of the work. Manager Andy Thompson says there are more new piers and pier extensions planned:“Plantation Wharf starts to fill in the network between Putney and the central city core of piers. The next addition to the network, Battersea Power Station Pier, will give Londoners even greater opportunities to get afloat and see their city from a new angle.”

The PLA is supporting the growth in passenger services, providing expert advice and licensing new facilities, working with the Greater London Authority (GLA), Transport for London, London River Services, vessel operators and developers.
