The Thames Festival Trust has announced the winners of its Thames Lens photographic competition for 2014. Winner of the PLA category prize was Jason Arthur who wins a pair of RIBS

This year’s PLA Rowing Safety Awards took place at Cygnet Rowing Club in Chiswick and saw the first ever joint winners: Cygnet Rowing Club and Furnivall Rowing Club.

The awards are based on recommendations from the Thames Regional Rowing Council (TRRC), which has analysed the incident data and given the clubs points for their performance. Through the TRRC points

He developed the striking ‘Look Out’
posters for the latest safety campaign and has since developed a really good, simple and concise video explaining the rowing code for all rowers to follow. Neil received a ‘Special Recognition’ PLA plaque and Centenary book.

scored exactly the same, after a very good year. Each club was presented with a PLA plaque and a cheque for £750.

Latymer Upper School won the
prize for most improved club after
making substantial improvements,
and demonstrating a much improved
attitude to safety. They received a
PLA plaque and a cheque for £500.
Latymer’s performance was
particularly welcome after a
PLA/TRRC focus on schools’ rowing safety through 2013.

A special presentation was also made to Cygnet Rowing Club member, Neil Pickford, who went well beyond the normal call of his hobby.
