PLA CEO, Robin Mortimer, has joined the Centre for London Commission looking at East Thames crossings.
Looking west from Tower Bridge there are 16 road bridges along the next 20 miles of the Thames, up to Kew.
To the east of Tower Bridge, however, there is only one road crossing within London. The existing tunnels and bridges are badly congested and have been identified by the Centre for London and, separately, the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as a systemic vulnerability to the London transport network.
The commission, chaired by former Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis, brings together experts from the worlds of transport, engineering, politics,

regeneration, housing and architecture,
to produce a proposal for new crossing construction.

the delivery of new Thames crossings
are invited by the Commission to [email protected] including the words ‘Commission on East Thames Crossings’ in the subject line. The Commission is open to evidence submissions until mid-July.
