The Port of Tilbury, has launched London Paper Terminal (LPT) following investment of over £3.5 million in the latest state-of-the-art equipment including intelligent clamps for safe handling of paper rolls as well as liftec and reach-stacker equipment. As the largest paper handling port in the UK, the terminal can handle all sizes of customers as

a shared user paper distribution centre. The terminal’s first key customers are paper giants UPM, Sappi and Kotkamills who use the new terminal as their UK base to distribute over 400,000 tonnes of product each year to their customers around the UK.

PLA staff stepped into action when a fire broke out on Dutch barge, Flicka alongside Imperial Wharf on a Sunday morning. Colin Motton and Thomas Kingsnorth spotted the fire and alerted Jason Durkin and Michael Evans on PLA launch, Ravensbourne. They went to Flicka and tackled the blaze with the harbour launch fire hose. Extensive vessel damage or worse was avoided as a result of their actions.

 

The first ever UK call of a Hamburg Süd ‘Cap San’ class vessel took place on Friday, 21 March, when she called at London Container Terminal. Cap San

 

Lorenzo, an ultra-large container ship at 333 metres in length, required special provisions including two pilots on-board for her inbound trip to Tilbury.
