Wildlife, rowers, riverside residents and walkers are all set to benefit from our £30,000 habitat improvement programme on Oliver’s Ait, an island in the River Thames downriver of Kew Bridge. Just 120 metres long and ten metres wide, the Ait is home to a host of wildlife including bats, kingfishers, and rare swollen spire and Thames door snails. Urgent extensive tree and stone works was needed as part of a habitat protection scheme.

After an 18-month restoration project, developed by London Wildlife Trust for the PLA, in consultation with the local community, the island is now prepared for a long-term habitat protection and continued improvement programme.

The PLA marked the completion of the latest round of work with a rain-soaked tree planting ceremony with local community representatives.
