Captaining a passenger ship, narrowboats in far-flung places and all the latest news about the tidal Thames featured at our Recreational Pre-Season Briefing. The popular yearly address to Tidal Thames Navigators’ Club members, is timed to coincide with the start of the recreational season, was held on board replica paddle steamer Dixie Queen and saw more than 100 people attend. Guests were told about the work of the Port of London Authority,

updated with the latest on the Thames Vision and our new
PLA app.

Chris Livett of Livett’s Launches gave a presentation about operating boats on the Thames, while a representative of St Pancras Cruising Club (for narrowboat enthusiasts) told the event about a lively expedition all the way to River Medway in Kent. The event also included a presentation by our assistant marine surveyor Miles Featherstone, a keen boater,

who regaled guests with a
lively talk
on his tidal Thames travels. And it concluded with
an update on works in central London, including the Thames Tideway Tunnel.

SMS manager Jon Beckett said: “It was a very enjoyable evening and many people who attended gave us a lot of positive feedback about the illuminating presentations. It was certainly one of the best briefings we’ve had in recent years.”

Also, please bear in mind that the Thames is tidal, which means the majority of marinas have restricted access at certain times of the day.

Our latest handbook is a must-have guide for anyone moving cargoes into, and out of, the UK via this world-famous port.

This full-colour book comes packed with information about shipping, logistics, freight and transport on London’s river and is indispensable for organisations in these and other related industries.

If you’re planning a sailing trip on the tidal Thames and need somewhere to dock, why not have a look at the range of visitor moorings available?

A number of those available on London’s river are owned and run by yacht clubs, cruising clubs and marinas, among others. You need permission from the berth or mooring owner/provider (for more information click here). We also own and manage a number of visitor moorings, to find out more, please call 01474 562421 or email [email protected]. Make sure you discuss your vessel’s dimensions and its suitability for the relevant mooring with the owner when booking.
