This year’s Thames Careers Day attracted 668 people, including 40 school students from London Nautical School and Longfield Academy.

Run by the PLA and National Maritime Development Group visitors could talk to exhibitors from companies including: Port of Tilbury, Commercial Marine and

Piling, S Walsh & Son, Kort Propulsion, Land and Water Group, DP World London Gateway, Thames Tideway Tunnel and the RSPB.

The school students enjoyed focused tours showing them our navigational safety technology and marine engineering operations.

 

The PLA stepped in to action recently
to keep ships moving on the river,
finding and clearing an obstruction on
a berth in less than 18 hours.
O ur hydrographic team found an obstruction on the berth at 3.30 pm
on a Friday afternoon. The next vessel was due alongside at 12.30 pm the next day. Marine Services’ divers and Driftwood team attended at 9.00 am Saturday, with the ship already inward bound for the berth. At 9.30 am a

 

10-metre section of flexible loading pipe was recovered, which could have fouled props / thrusters. The berth was declared safe at 10.00 am.
 

The Thames played host to a series 
of launch events for the new Jaguar
XE. The events, undertaken after
careful consultation with harbour masters, vessel licensing and
corporate affairs teams, included the car being carried over the river slung under a helicopter, taken along the Thames in a landing craft and serenaded by the singer Emili Sande on a barge close to the London Eye.
