Planning a trip on London’s
world-famous river has been
made that little bit easier – after we launched our first ever
mobile app.

The free software, for Apple
and Android devices, provides
must-have data and was officially unveiled at the PLA’s annual
public meeting in Putney last month. Downloading it should
help ensure you have the following important information to hand:

Live tidal data
Notices to Mariners
Events
Engineering works

Introducing the app at London Rowing Club in Putney, Robin Mortimer said: “A number of river

users, particularly those involved in sports and recreation, have asked for
an app that provides easier access to important navigational information.
“Simply visit Apple’s App store or Google Play for Android devices to
get the PLA Tidal Thames App.

This is just the beginning – we want
river users to tell us how we can
improve the app, so now’s the time
to try it and tell us what you think.”

The new app comes with an events calendar covering planned rowing, sailing and paddling activities. For boaters it provides details of all mooring locations along the river, including amenities at each location such as mains electric, fuel and pump out facilities, making it easier for visitors to pick moorings that suit their needs.

Bob Baker, PLA chief harbour master said: “Our website gets more than a million visits a year and many people do so to get a range of navigational information.

“The app will provides essential information, that we hope will make planning a journey on the Thames simpler and safer.”
