Restoration work on the Port of Tilbury's historic cupola is on track – despite the severe winter weather. Work on the £250,000 project started on 17 December when the cupola, which features prominently on the Thames skyline, was carefully removed. The ornate dome structure, situated on top of the London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury, had been in-situ since 1929. Essential restoration work was needed to ensure the historic structure is preserved and maintained for future generations. The project, carried out entirely at the expense of the Port of Tilbury,

includes many custom-built materials ensuring a sympathetic and long-standing result.

Panoramic views of the Thames have joined ranks with the penquins of the
Antarctic and the Grand Canyon on Google Street View.

The river is the latest iconic global location to feature on Street View
after the PLA teamed up with Google UK to send its 'Trekker' camera down the Thames. The 360-degree photographic views are now live on Google Street View on https://www.
google.com/maps/views/home?gl=gb
.

In order to capture the river, the
Google Trekker camera was attached to the PLA's hydrographic surveying vessel Yantlet, which then journeyed almost 30 miles up and down the river from Woolwich to Richmond.

The 'trekker is a 4ft, 18kg (40lbs) backpack fitted with 1 15º angle lens camera that takes 360º pictures every
2.5 seconds.

Canal & River Trust recently released on Twitter an image taken from a hydro survey in West India Dock. Clearly showing a couple of cars that will need to be recovered (and one of them looks like a Mini).
